William Shakespeare in "Midsummer Night's Dream"
and Twelfth Night" talked about wedding crashers in his famous
plays and he wasn't the first. Presumably when the first cave people
were on earth, Ogg, Gogg, and Hulga had quite an episode when Gogg
and Hulga were getting married and Ogg crashed the ceremony.
Who can also forget the famous wedding crasher scene in the movie,
"The Graduate," when Dustin Hoffman crashes Katherine
Ross's marriage ceremony and sweeps her away on a bus? Aside from
this, though, the true spirit of the wedding crasher is not in bravado,
but rather in stealth.
In the movie "Wedding Crashers" with Vince Vaughn and
Owen Wilson, the two scoundrels make a game of sneaking into weddings
in order to pickup women. When this doesn't work out, Wilson starts
crashing funerals instead. This comedy keeps in line with the true
spirit of wedding crashers, which is the thrill of the crash without
getting caught.
In the Wedding Crashers TV show, which is being produced
by Ashton Kutcher from Punk'd, the plot thickens as the bride and
groom are in on the candid-camera reality TV show gotcha style ceremony.
The wedding crashers in this case actors who set up the comedy by
acting obnoxiously as the camera crew films the antics.
But, there is always room for non-media related wedding crashers
who just want the thrill of sliding into a stranger's reception,
partaking of free food and drink, hitting on the opposite sex and
sliding off at the end of the evening. If you're this type of wedding
crasher, you'll need several wedding
supplies before you get started on this little weekend adventure.
Some of the wedding supplies needed will be a tuxedo, suit or formal
gown (depending upon your sex), corsage and stylish shoes. You'll
also need a fantastic set of stories to tell (gaining entrance,
your relation to bride or groom's family, what you do for a living),
chutzpah and the poise to pull it all off.
Remember, getting caught as a wedding crasher may be no picnic
as you could be arrested for trespassing or ticketed for several
misdemeanors or simply tossed outside by a large, drunken angry
crowd. Humiliation is something that any committed wedding crasher
needs to be willing to risk. But, the benefits of pulling off the
perfect scam and not getting caught is what keeps many wedding crashers
doing what they do best many weekends a year.
